Article- Promoting Early Literacy for Diverse Learners Using Audio and Video TechnologySkouge, J., Rao, K., & Boisvert, P. (2007). Promoting Early Literacy for Diverse Learners Using Audio and Video Technology . Early Childhood Education Journal. 35(1), 5-11. Doi:10.1007/s10643-007-0170-y This article talks about how to apply the technology of audio and videos in the classroom. It also says that while evaluating these technologies it helps the kids focus and understand things that are being taught in the classroom. This allows the kids a better hands-on experience. In this article they also talk about how they utilize the library more which gets the kids also familiar with other parts of the school. Having this technology is also important for disabled children because it gives them a chance to do things on their own and do more to help them stimulate their minds. I thought that this article was very useful. I found all of the information that they gave was helpful and would make sense to have in a classroom. Having kids be more hands-on is better for them because they are able to do it themselves and try and figure out on their own what they need to do. I also think that this would help kid’s development because they are working more parts of their minds that they normally will not use without the extra technology. This article would impact my classroom because I feel as though when I become a teacher I will want my students to use this technology. I feel like having this in my classroom will not only help out my classroom, but also make it more fun for the kids to be more a part of what they are learning and also give them a better perspective on learning. being able to have technology for kids at such a young age will better prepare them for the future. With our society these days technology is becoming a major part today and if they have a better understanding it will be easier as they get older.

The book The Name Jar is a book about a little girl named Unhei who was teased by other children on her bus because of her Korean name. As she goes to her first day of class the classroom asks her name and she ends up telling her classmates that she did not yet decide on a name for herself yet. In order to figure out what name she was going to choose her classmates helped her by putting suggestions into a “name jar.” In the end the girl had decided to keep her own name when one of her classmates takes much pride in a nickname her friend had given her which was Chinku which end up meaning “friend.”

The diverse group that is being depicted would be immigrants. The book does not really show how it would feel to be an immigrant. That was one of the sags of the book. Actually seeing the book helped really understand the meaning behind the book and just mainly painted a picture to what was being read. This was your able to see the different people in the book. This book gave be a better view of what other kids may feel if they are different. To little kids if they are different most of the time they are embarrassed if they are not like every other kid in the class. This gives me new insight because it shows how diverse we are, but also shows the other view of what the other side feels like. I think that this is relevant to my teaching practice and classroom community because now a day’s classrooms are getting more and more diverse and the book was a good example of how classrooms are today. I would recommend this text to other teachers want to help the class understand a part of what diversity is to the kids. Also not only will it help them getting a good understanding, but the kids would enjoy the story line as well. I think that I would use this book with my students because I liked the story and it was a cute book for kids.
